The Ian Tilmann Skate Park
Safety Harbor, Florida
The Skatepark has now been completely redesigned and rebuilt! Check out all the latest news on our FACEBOOK PAGE.
On April 21, 2007
the City of Safety Harbor dedicated a local Skate Park in honor and memory of
Ian Tilmann.
The Skate Park dedication acknowledged
the efforts
of The Ian Tilmann Foundation, Inc. to promote helmet use for the
prevention of
traumatic brain injuries by providing FREE helmets to skaters who
promise to
wear them. The United States Marine Corps Color Guard presented the
Flag in
honor of Ian's military service. Over
200 Skaters and their families attended the dedication. Those who knew
Ian spoke
about his life and love of Skateboarding. The formal dedication was
presented by
the Mayor of Safety Harbor, Mr. Andy Steingold.
The
growth of Helmet for a Promise at the Skate Parkbrought new focus to the Foundation's program. The Skate Park
has placed over 1,100 helmets since the dedication. Skaters can
register for
Helmet for a Promise at the Community Center located next to the Skate Park any
time during open hours. The helmets are "dropped shipped" to the Skate Park
and the park Recreation staff arrange for pick up. The Foundation also
maintains FREE Loaner Helmets at the Park so no Skater is ever turned
away for
lack of a helmet. The Ian Tilmann Skate Park is
where the Helmet for a Promise grew and evolved into the national
program of
today. The local Old School Skater community has been supportive from
the start
and continue their support to expand the program to other public and
private Skate
Parks.
